Darrell H. Zinkowich

Darrell H. "Bozo" Zinkowich, 60, of 813 W. Village Limits Rd., Athens, died Friday, April 27, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Darrell was born May 20, 1946 in Merrill, son of Martha Zocher Zinkowich and the late Edward Zinkowich. On May 27, 1967, he married Muriel Natzke at St. Paul Lutheran Church, town of Hamburg. She survives.

Bozo worked at Sonoco Inc., Wausau, for more than 17 years. As a hard core fastpitch softball player Bozo had the opportunity to travel and meet many players and friends no matter where he went. From local tournaments to the World Championships in Arizona, Bozo played his heart out and enjoyed every minute of it, especially knowing that his greatest fan, Muriel, was just a few rows up in the stands. Bozo enjoyed many outdoor activities like hunting, fishing and camping, but he always enjoyed taking many trips with the love of his life to many far-off destinations. Besides playing dartball and gardening, he found spending time with his family and taking care of his grandchildren as the best way to spend his free time.

Survivors include his wife Muriel and mother Martha, both of Athens; grandchildren Jordan and Mariah Zinkowich and Dominic and Connor Lewandowski; step-grandchildren Jenny (Nick) Gerrits, and Misty and Brian Lewandowski; and step-great-grandchildren Tony, Mia and Isaac. Also surviving are brother Lee and sisters Karen (Kenny) Gauerke and Jodi (Jerry) Bloch, all of Athens; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

Funeral services were Tuesday, May 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens. Rev. Andrew Alberts officiated. Burial was in the Athens Lutheran Cemetery. The Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens, handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Bozo's name is being established. Online condolences at www.petersonkraemer.com
