Donald J. Stadler

Donald J. Stadler, 59, of W1787 Center Rd., town of Pine River, Merrill, died Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at his home of natural causes.

Donald was born June 20, 1947, in Wausau, son of Lucille Borth Stadler and the late Louis Stadler. He married Debra L. Zahn on Jan. 8, 1972. She survives.

Donald served in the U.S. Army from 1967 until his honorable discharge in 1969, and was stationed in Germany and Vietnam. Donald was a firefighter with the Merrill Fire Department until he retired in March 1986 due to a disability. Donald enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and walking in the woods. He adored his grandsons and enjoyed every moment he spent with them. Donald also enjoyed spending time at the Stadler family cottage in St. Germain.

Survivors besides his wife Debra, Merrill; and his mother Lucille, Wausau; include sons Jason (Nancy) and Craig, both of Merrill; and Chad (Angela), Eau Claire; and grandsons Dawson, Trevor, Cameron and Hunter. Also surviving are sisters Janice Browning, Superior; Julie (Jeff) Peterson, Atlanta, Ga.; and Paula (Don) Sondelski, Mosinee; and brothers, Ronald and LeRoy, both of Edwards, Mo.; and Steve (Joyce), Merrill. He was preceded in death by his father Louis.

Funeral services were Monday, April 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. David Klemm officiated. Burial was in St. Paul's Cemetery, Town of Pine River, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 1638, Merrill. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family.
