Victor J. Lukes

Victor J. Lukes, 76, Merrill, died Sunday, June 3, 2007, at St. Clare's Hospital, Weston.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. this afternoon, Wednesday, June 6, at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill. Rev. John Eldred and Pastor Missy Holdorf will officiate. Burial will be in Snow Hill Cemetery, town of Scott, with military rites by VFW Post 1638. Visitation at the church after 2 p.m. today. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is serving the family. A complete obituary will be published in next week's Foto News.

Victor J. Lukes

Victor J. Lukes, 76, of 301 East St., Merrill, died Sunday, June 3, 2007, at St. Clare's Hospital, Weston.

Victor was born July 30, 1930, in Merrill, son of the late Victor and Helen Miller Lukes. He married Joan Koehler on June 3, 1953. She survives.

Victor was a dairy farmer in the town of Scott. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1953, and served during the Korean War. He was a member of VFW Post 1638-Merrill, and the American Legion. He was also a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill, where he was involved with the Church Council. Victor enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching Packer games at Lambeau Field. He adored his grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with them.

Survivors besides his wife Joan, Merrill, include his daughters Gloria Lukes and Laurie (John) Humphrey, both of Merrill; son Steve (Jennifer), Athens; grandchildren Bobbie Jo, Leah, Logan, Riley, Morgan, Kaitlin and Zandria; and great-grandson Chase. Also surviving are sisters Marion Griffins, Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; Helen Lukes and Marlene Brinkham, New Richmond; and Alice Molinski, Missouri; brothers Robert (Gwen), Salt Lake City, Utah; Donald, Harshaw; and Edward, New Richmond; and sisters-in-law Rosella Moyer and Luella Storm, both of Merrill. He was preceded in death by an infant sister and brother Clyde Stieber.

Funeral services were Wednesday, June 6, at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill. Rev. John Eldred and Pastor Missy Holdorf co-officiated. Burial was in Snow Hill Cemetery, town of Scott. Military rites were conducted by VFW Post 1638 Merrill. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family.
