Lester G. Lange

Lester G. Lange, 108, Rhinelander, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at Alice Haus.

Lester was born Feb. 28, 1898, in the town of Birch, Lincoln County, near Merrill, son of Gustav Adolph and Hattie Mackler Lange. He married the former Genevieve Geeraerts in November 1919.

Following his completion of elementary education in Lincoln County, Lester went on to Wausau Business College in 1913 for two years. He then worked for the Wisconsin Valley Improvement Corporation from December 1915 until July 1919. In March 1920 he joined the Tomahawk Paper Company where he was employed until March 1929, when he moved to the Rhinelander Paper Company where he held the position of bookkeeper. At the time of his retirement in 1953 he was the vouchering supervisor. In his spare time he belonged to the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club and Camera Club. Lester was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his daughter Rose Mary (Floyd) Breneman, Rhinelander; daughter-in-law Carol Lange; grandchildren David (Kim) Lange, Green Bay; Mark (Sherry) Lange, Seymour; Robert (Lysa) Lange, Green Bay; Julie (Pat) Laska and Steve (Korry) Breneman, both of Rhinelander; Diana (Don) Baxa, Sartell, Minn.; and Dawn (JP) Weiske, Green Bay; great-grandchildren Mathew, Benjamin, Jacob, Daniel and Jenna Laska; Kayla and Zachary Breneman; Joshua, Alex, Jared and Emily Baxa; Tyler and Jonah Weiske; and Christopher, Ryan, Emily, Lawren, Brady and Olivia Lange; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Genevieve in 1964, son Lawrence in 1982, and brothers Bill (Myrtle), Elmer and Bryan (Eleanor).

Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home, Rhinelander. Rev. John Gerritts officiated. Inurnment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
