Betty J. Herdt

Betty J. Herdt, 68, of 1702 W. Main St., Merrill, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, after a courageous 16-year battle with cancer.

Betty was born June 30, 1938, in Merrill, daughter of Verna Klebenow Koehler, Merrill; and the late Marvin Koehler. She married Raymond J. Herdt on June 13, 1959, in Merrill. He survives.

Betty was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill. Betty had worked in the office of the Lincoln County Highway Department many years ago. After her marriage and while she was raising her family, Betty did babysitting for other families in her home. Betty volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul in Merrill, she had been a Brownie and Cub Scout Leader, and she enjoyed making crafts, attending rummage sales, taking bus trips throughout the United States with he husband, polka dancing, flower gardening, shopping with her daughters, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Raymond Herdt, Merrill; mother Verna Koehler, Merrill; daughters Debra (Wendelin) Mathis, Merrill; and Terri (Brian) Haufe, Stevens Point; son Todd, Waukesha; and grandchildren Amanda and Jennifer Mathis, Merrill; and Ashley Haufe, Stevens Point. Also surviving are sister Kathryn (Richard) Vandre, Merrill; and brother Allen (Carol) Koehler, Merrill.

Funeral services were Monday, June 18, at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill. Rev. John Eldred and Pastor Missy Holdorf co-officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family.
