Robert Steimers, 81, Merrill, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill. Arrangements are pending at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill. A complete obituary will be published in next week's Foto News.

Robert H. Stimers

Robert H. Stimers, 81, of Merrill, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, under Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.

Born in Merrill on Jan. 2, 1925, Robert was the son of the late Harrison and Margaret Manning Stimers. He married Monica Duginski on Oct. 18, 1947, in Merrill. She survives.

Bob graduated form Merrill High School in 1943. He then entered Army service in the 519th Port Battalion on July 3, 1943, and was honorably discharged on Feb. 4, 1946. He was then in the National Guard (Red Arrow division) from Nov. 15, 1949 through March 15, 1959. He was employed at the Merrill Manufacturing Plant, the Ward Paper Company, Quality Print, Pilot Printing and he retired from UW Marathon County as a maintenance mechanic. He was also a carpenter for Ed Bosio, Art Hitzke and Sam Duginski. Bob avidly enjoyed music, playing with the Merrill City Band for more than 40 years. He enjoyed working in his garden and always had a Farmer's Market in the summer selling sweet corn and strawberries. As a couple, Bob and Monica traveled extensively, and enjoyed seeing Europe, Hawaii, Alaska and took many cruises.

Survivors include his wife Monica, Merrill; daughters Christine Holmes, Oregon, Wis.; Peggie (Randy) Schmidt, Elk Mound; and Roberta Geiselhart, Richfield, Minn.; sons Bryan (Laurie), Merrill; and Patrick (Gail Schroeder), Sugar Grove, Ill.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister Mary Bakes, Grand Rapids, Mich.; sisters-in-law Veronica Koch, Merrill; and Bettie Ecklund, Tomahawk; and brothers-in-law Sam (Jean) Duginski, Appleton; and Frank Duginski, Merrill.

Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 29, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Merrill. Rev. James Horath officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family.
