Duane Clair Heath
Duane Clair Heath, 84, of Merrill, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, under Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.
Born in Merrill on March 4, 1923, Duane was the son of the late Grover and Hazel Bliss Heath. He married Ruth Boettcher on Aug. 21, 1943, in Gulf Port, Miss. She survives.
Dewey was a 1941 graduate of Merrill Senior High School. He then went into the Army Air Force as an engineer. He served in England and flew over 31 bombing missions into Germany on a B-24. Dewey returned to the states in 1944 and worked for Weinbrenner Shoe Company. Later he worked as a mechanic at Omar Peterson-s Garage and Fred Doepke's Garage. Dewey then started a poultry farm and ran that until 1965. He then started a snowmobile dealer-ship which he owned and operated until 1976 when he sold the business to his son Jeff. After retiring, Dewey and his wife Ruth enjoyed traveling in their motor home. He was a member of St. Stephen-s United Church of Christ, Merrill, and was a life member of VFW Post 1638 in Merrill. Dewey enjoyed fishing, hunting, gambling, gardening and traveling.
Surviving are his wife Ruth, Merrill; daughters Patricia (Dan) Woller, Cherie (Robert) Kultgen, and Nancy (Terry) Kasper, all of Merrill; sons Greg (Judy), Merrill; Delbert, Grand Prairie, Texas; and Jeff (Sherry), Merrill; grandchildren Scott and Tom Woller, Aaron Kultgen, Shelly Bruno, Lisa Viegut, Kevin Kasper, Ryan and Doug Heath, Christie Heath, Stephanie Heath, Dustin Heath, Lindsay Heath and Nicholas Heath; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister-in-law Lucille -Granny- Heath, Merrill. He was preceded in death by brothers Dale and Garth.
Funeral services were Tuesday, July 31, at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill. Pastor Missy Holdorf officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park with graveside military rites by VFW Post 1638, Merrill. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to the charity of your choice.
