Iona Schalow
Iona Schalow, 73, of Merrill, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.
Arrangements are pending at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill. A complete obituary will be published in next week's Foto News.

Iona L. Schalow
Iona L. Schalow, 73, of Tomahawk, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield of a severe liver infection complicated by a number of other medical conditions.
Born May 15, 1934, in Wausau, Iona was the daughter of the late Walter H. and Helena Schmidt Voigt. She married Dennis Schalow on Nov. 12, 1955, in Wausau. He survives.
Iona graduated from Wausau High School in 1951. She then attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in Wausau until forced to withdraw because of ill health. As a young woman, Iona worked for Dr. Enoch Brick of Wausau and at the First Aid Department of Marathon Electric Corporation. Iona was a partner and officer of Schalow Prescription Center pharmacy of Merrill until her retirement. She was a long time member of the Valparaiso Guild of Merrill, the Merrill Lioness Club, and Lupus Society of Wisconsin. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and being with her family.
Surviving are her husband Dennis, Merrill and Tomahawk; son James M. (Brenda Christian) Schalow, Wausau; and granddaughters Janet Marie Schalow, La Crosse; and Nancy Lynn Schalow and Sarah Ann Schalow, both of Wausau. Also surviving are sisters Viola Banik, Wausau; Mildred (Elvern) Beck, Weston; Selma (Clarence) Miessner, Edgar/Fenwood; and Rosella (Delbert) Paulman, Madison; brothers Norman (Judy) Voigt, Peoria, Ariz.; David (Peggy) Voigt, Glendale, Ariz.; and Daniel (Cindy) Voigt, Wisconsin Rapids; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by several half sisters and half brothers.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at St. John Lutheran church, Merrill. Rev. Alden Beversdorf officiated. Entombment was in Merrill Memorial Park Mausoleum. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, handled the arrangements.
