Iris R. Marth

Iris Rosalin Springer Marth, 85, of Merrill, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2007, at St. Clare's Hospital, Weston, under the care of Ministry Hospice.

Iris was born to George and Francis Fischer Springer on June 23, 1922, in Mosinee.

Iris was a housewife and mother to her children until they were grown, even providing childcare for her grandchildren. She enjoyed being a homemaker, and her children still have fond memories of her homemade breads and kuikens. Faced with an empty nest, Iris decided to enter the work force. She began working in the dietary department at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill in her early 50s, finally retiring at the age of 75. Iris enjoyed her retirement years, continuing her interest in her garden and flowers, feeding her wild birds, cooking and canning. Iris's children would tell you that her favorite hobby was shopping, and she would be the first to admit it was true. She had been known to out shop her daughters and grand-daughters alike. Iris shared her retirement with her cats Mindy and Molly. Iris enjoyed her great-grandchildren and they were blessed with her presence at many of their Baptisms, First Communions and birthday celebrations.

Survivors include her daughters Iris (Ben) Breitenbach, Rothschild; Kay (David) Bychinski, Wausau; and Sharon (Steve) Semling, Caledonia, Mich.; sons Kenneth (Megan) and Terry (Susan), both of Merrill; grandchildren Colleen, Kris, Daniel, Jody, Brenda, Justin and Jeff; great-grandchildren Keith, Brooklyn, Brynna, Brooke, Blake and Carly; and her sister Evelyn Krzanowski, Mosinee. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, and in January 2007 she lost her beloved son Al.

Funeral services were Wednesday, July 25, at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Steven Brice officiated. Burial followed in St. Francis Cemetery, Merrill. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, handled the arrangements.

The family of Iris would like to extend thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Clare's Hospital for the kindness and understanding given to our mother and our family.
