Sister Virginia Klein

Sister Virginia Klein, 81, Sister of Mercy of the Holy Cross, died Thursday, July 19, 2007, at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill, under the care of the loving staff at Bell Tower Residence and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Service. At the time of her death, Sister Virginia was in her 61st year of her religious profession.

Sister Virginia (Barbara Ann) was born Sept. 3, 1925, in Stillwater, Minn., to the late Walter and Katherine Zoller Klein. She entered the Holy Cross convent in Merrill on March 6, 1943, and took her First Profession on June 19, 1945.

Sister Virginia ministered in the medical field at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese, Ill., on various occasions serving as administrator, business office supervisor, medical records supervisor, and prior to her retirement she was director of pastoral care. She also worked at St. Joseph's Hospital in Dickinson, N.D., for nine years. Sister Virginia retired to Bell Tower Residence in Merrill in 2003.

Sister Virginia is survived by the Holy Cross Community; brothers Thomas Klein, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; and Bill (Sheila) Klein, Stillwater, Minn.; sisters Dolores Skeivik, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Kitty Luebke, Onalaska; and many nieces and nephews.

A wake service was held Sunday evening, July 22, at Holy Cross Chapel at Bell Tower Residence. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, July 23, in the Holy Cross Chapel at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill. Father Tom Zelinski, OFM, Capuchin, officiated. Burial was in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Merrill. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Huss Fund at Bell Tower Residence and be sent to Holy Cross sisters, 1400 O'Day St., Merrill.
