Verna J. Mohrland

Verna Josephine Norma Mohrland, 90, of Merrill, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Tomahawk.

Born in the town of Berlin on March 19, 1917, Verna was the daughter of Emil and Ida Gruenberg Johr. She married Henry Mohrland on May 16, 1958. He passed away on Oct. 8, 1991.

Verna graduated from Merrill High School in 1935. She worked for the Lincoln Canning Company for 20 years. Verna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She served as president and vice-president of the Ladies Aid. Verna received the "Servant of Christ" award for community and church service. She served as a volunteer for the Merrill Senior Center. Verna enjoyed playing cards, music, and dancing to polka music. She especially enjoyed visiting with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her sisters.

Survivors include her daughters Sharon (Dennis) Roberts, Merrill; and Jan Eilola and Harry, Tomahawk; son Patrick (Marie) McCarty, Ottowa, Ill.; grandchildren Tracy (Nyle) Anderson, Burlington; Wendy (Pat) Savaske, Jeff (Becky) Roberts and Stephanie (Darrell) Oestreich, all of Merrill; and Patrick (Leslie) McCarty, Gregg McCarty and Melissa (Jim) Koch, all of Illinois; and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister Goldie Saeger, Merrill; sister-in-law Lydia Salefeske, Merrill; numerous nieces and nephews; and close friend Doris Raasch. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry, granddaughter Kelly Sue Plamann; sisters Esther Boettcher and Frances Emerich; and brothers-in-law Mike Saeger, Art Boettcher and Elroy Emerich.

Funeral services were Monday, November 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. David Klemm officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family. The family requests donations be given to Trinity Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid.
