Clinton E. Williams

Clinton E. Williams, 77, of N6306 Rock Falls Dr., town of Rock Falls, Merrill, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.

Clinton was born June 3, 1930, in McGregor, Iowa, son of the late Walter and Florence Kellogg Williams. He married Margaret A. Kaufman on April 4, 1953, in Irma. She survives.

Clinton was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Irma. He was a supervisor at Marathon Electric and was a union vice-president for Local 1791 I.B.E.W. Clinton had built his own business, DC Motors, in Merrill. He was a sergeant in the 'Arctic Test Branch' in the U.S. Army. While stationed in Alaska during the Korean War, Clinton had another year of service added to his term, just as he was preparing to come back home. Clinton was a boxer in high school, and was considered a 'Golden Gloves Boxer' in the Army. He was also a marksmanship instructor. Clinton enjoyed training draft horses, trout fishing, hunting, camping and woodworking, especially logging. He began logging at the age of 8 years old. Clinton really enjoyed stoking fire at the cabin and "sweating them out of the bunkhouse." He also coached Little League. Clinton and his wife Margaret spent about 10 years as "Winter Texans." He enjoyed spending time with his blue heelers, Lady and Jake. Clinton will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Survivors besides his wife Margaret, Merrill; include daughter Mary (Phil) Grefe, Merrill; sons Bill, Merrill; Randy (Karen), Antigo, and Larr and Robert (Diann), both of Merrill; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister Dorothy (Nolan) White, Alamo, Texas; brothers Clarence (Beverly), Virginia; Richard (Mary Ellen), Irma; and Edward (Carol), Janesville; sister-in-law Marge Williams, Tomahawk; and his beloved dog Jake. He was preceded in death by granddaughter Danyelle Lynn Williams, and brothers Eugene and Roland.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 11, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Irma. Rev. Hans Heisinger officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, town of Rock Falls, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 1638, Merrill. Online condolences may be made at www.taylorstinefuneralhome.com.
