Grace D. Rumpf

Grace Dorothea Rumpf, 85, of Cambridge, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at Fairhaven in Whitewater.

Grace was born in Wild Rose on Jan. 11, 1922, the daughter of Charles and Barbara Elizabeth Roberts Jones. She grew up in Wild Rose and then moved to Cambridge. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1940 and attended UW Madison for a year before receiving her registered nursing degree from Methodist School of Nursing. On Feb. 9, 1945, she married Donald F. Rumpf in Jacksonville, Fla. Together, they have resided in Cambridge since 1952.

Grace was a member of the Oakland-Cambridge Presbyterian Church and Hope Circle. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Grace excelled at quilting and enjoyed knitting, gardening, golfing and playing bridge and euchre with her friends.

Surviving are her husband Donald, Cambridge; daughter Lynn K. (Thomas) Zentner, Merrill; son Michael D. (Melanie), Cambridge; grandchildren Jonathon (Kristi) Zentner, Rachel (Curt) Semrow, David Rumpf and Andrew Rumpf; and great-grandchildren Jack and Ryan Zentner and Lauren Semrow. Also surviving are brother Ozzie Jones and sisters Mary Hartwig and Blodwyn "Billie" Cockrell. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Ambrose "Chuck" Jones.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m., at the Oakland-Cambridge Presbyterian Church, Cambridge. Rev. Sandra Nuernberg will officiate. A luncheon will follow the service. Burial services for the family will be in Lake Ripley Cemetery, town of Oakland. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, at the Nitardy Funeral Home, Cambridge, and after 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Cambridge Foundation, Oakland-Cambridge Presbyterian Church or the Merrill United Way. The Rumpf family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. George Gay and the staff at Fairhaven for the care they gave to Grace. The family especially appreciates the support of Grace's exceptional women friends.
