Arlin W. Steckling
Arlin W. -Steck- Steckling, 80, of Little Chicago, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at his home under Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Merrill on Sept. 27, 1925, Arlin was the son of the late Walter and Erna Schultz Steckling. He married Agnes Baumann on June 16, 1945, in St. Paul-s Lutheran Church in Naugart. She survives.
Arlin had managed the Corn Belt Cheese Factory for many years. Then he and Agnes owned and operated Steck-s Bar and Ballroom in the town of Berlin. Later, Arlin operated Steckling Excavating until retiring in 1987. He was a member of the town of Maine Lions Club and received the -Birch-Sturm Fellowship- award in recognition of his unselfish dedication to the humanitarian projects of the Wisconsin Lions Foundation. He served on the Berlin School Board when the Berlin Elementary School was built. Arlin was an avid fisherman, deer hunter, and enjoyed making sausage. He enjoyed woodworking and making things for his family.
Survivors include his wife Agnes, Little Chicago; daughter Chris (Stef) Kaufmann, Birnamwood; sons Chet (Donna), Wausau; Jerel (Jane), Gustine, Calif.; Wade, Little Chicago; and Eric (Flo), Merrill; grandchildren Laura (Jeff) Evans, Wausau; Renee (Bob) Aurit, Helena, Mont.; Sarah (Todd) Friesen, Fresno, Calif.; Phil (Karyn) Steckling, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; Jessica Wilde, Little Chicago; and Matt and Ashley Zocher, both of Merrill; and great-grandchildren Hailey, Jacob, Paul and Will. Also surviving are sisters Ruth (Roland) Weiss, Merrill; and Della (Ernest) Gay, Fla. He was preceded in death by infant sister Pearl and brother Leslie.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 13, at St. Peter-s Lutheran Church, town of Hamburg. Sharon Gall, diaconal minister, officiated. Burial was in St. Paul-s Ev. Lutheran Cemetery, Naugart, town of Berlin. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family.
