Royal D. Peterson
Royal D. "Nunny" Peterson, 83, formerly of W4177 Cty. J, town of Birch, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.
Royal was born Dec. 21, 1922, in the town of Birch, Lincoln County, son of the late Otto and Elizabeth Nelson Peterson. He married Shirley Weaver-Burdick on March 29, 1974, in Tomahawk. She preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 1989.
Royal worked as a logger and construction worker. He retired from Semco after working there for 15 years. Royal enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He raised his granddaughter, Robyn McDonald-Locke from age 13 to adulthood. They have been taking care of each other ever since. Royal loved his children and their families. He will be remembered for his generosity. Royal will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Survivors include his daughters Gloria Northrop, Florida; Holly (Art) French, Kathy (Darrell) Larson and Sheryl (Bob) Pratt, all of Rockford, Ill.; sons Ronald (Denise) Burdick, Texas; and Daniel (Cindy) Burdick, Tucson, Ariz.; daughter-in-law Rose Burdick, Rockford, Ill; 25 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister Marlene (Robert) Powell, Appleton; and brothers Lyle (Doris), Eagle River; Dale (Dolly), Irma; and Otto (Alice), Merrill. He was preceded in death by son Larry Burdick, sisters Mildred Luetzke, Arlie Schuetz, Elizabeth Peeters and Vivian Peterson; and brother Mahlon.
Visitation was Friday, June 9, at the Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. There were no funeral services.
