Norman R. Raasch
Norman R. Raasch, 88, of Merrill, died Sunday, June 18, 2006, at Bell Tower Residence under Comfort Care and Hospice.
Born in the town of Scott on Nov. 6, 1917, Norman was the son of the late Fred and Selma Gehrke Raasch. He married LaVila Woller on June 1, 1940, in the town of Maine. She survives.
Norman attended North Central Technical Institute for barber science and received his master barber degree. Following his training, he worked in his uncle Harry-s barber shop and later purchased the business. Norman named his business the -Ideal Barber Shop- and operated it until retiring in 1989 after 52 years of barbering. He was one of the first barbers to take appointments. Norman was a former member of the Merrill Area Chamber of Commerce. He belonged to Faith Lutheran Church in the town of Maine, where he was an active member and helped start the building project for the new church. Norman enjoyed camping, watching football, traveling, working in the yard, and especially spending time with his granddaughter and great- grandchildren.
He is survived by LaVila, his wife of 66 years, Merrill; daughter Gloria (Eugene) Borchardt, Merrill; granddaughter Krista (Andy) Zelinski, Merrill; great-grandchildren Katelyn and Jacob; sister Alice Henrichs, Merrill; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Wilbert, Elroy and Ardell.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, at Faith Lutheran Church, town of Maine. Rev. Steven Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, is serving the family. Memorial may be given to Faith Lutheran Church or Bell Tower Residence.
