Gareld R. Ellis

Gareld R. Ellis, 80, of Tomahawk, died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at North Central Health Care Facility under Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.

Born Sept. 30, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., Gareld was the son of the late Gareld and Dorothy Greene Ransberger and later adopted by Jim Ellis.

Gareld graduated from High School in Chicago, Ill. He also attended UW Madison for two years, and the Art Institute of Chicago. He joined the Army in 1943, where he was an aviation engineer and automotive mechanic. Following his discharge from the Army, Gareld worked as a car salesman, management consultant for G.S. May Co. in Chicago and RUPP Corporation in Ohio. Later he owned and operated Ellis Construction in Michigan. In 1968 Gareld retired but stayed active while building computers, a greenhouse, painting, woodworking, and building circuit boards. As a child, Gareld formed (along with his sister and brother) the -Three Luckies- and they performed acrobatics, tumbling and tap dancing on stage for 12 years. Gareld enjoyed go-cart and boat racing, snowmobiling and motorcycling.

Surviving are his daughter Kim Hanson, Oshkosh; sons Gary (Laura), Edwardsburg, Mich.; and Randy, Cassopolis, Mich.; grandchildren Nathan (Gina), Damien and Ryan Hanson; Jimi, Nicole, Arin and Heather Ellis; 2 great-grandchildren; and his step-father Robert Johnson, Rothschild. He was preceded in death by a sister, a brother and a granddaughter.

A private graveside ceremony will be held at a later date. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family.
