Ruth H. Grawien

Ruth H. Grawien, 84, formerly of the Town of Pine River, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.

Ruth was born Dec. 8, 1922, in Marathon County, daughter of the late William and Clara Kopplin Hoff. She married Ellwood E. Grawien on Jan. 13, 1945, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Corning. He preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1988.

Ruth had been employed at the former Hinz's Cork & Dyne, Merrill, and also at Fromm Brothers in the town of Hamburg. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and embroidery.

Survivors include her daughter Heidi (Jerome) Zinser, Irma; sons Lloyd (Linda), Wausau; and Jack (Audrey), Rodney (Dorothy) and Jody (Barb), all of Merrill; 15 grandchildren and *178 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her half-siblings Elaine (Harold) Schade, Land O Lakes; Naomi (Jules) Neuenfeldt, Florida; Pearl (Dennis) Voight, Lois (Bob) Giese and Karen (Sheldon) Voight, all of Wausau; Melvin (Kaye) Hoff, Minocqua; Jim (Judy) Hoff, California; and Sheldon (Bonnie) Hoff, Peter (Jean) Hoff and Bob (LuAnn) Hoff, all of Wausau. She was preceded in death by her step-mother Dorothy Oelke Hoff, grandson Jason Grawien, sisters Esther and Wilma, brothers Raymond, Harold, William and Fred, and half-brother Donald Hoff.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, town of Pine River. Rev. Darrell Gieschen will officiate. Burial will be in Friedenheim Cemetery, town of Berlin, Marathon County. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. this evening, Wednesday, Dec. 20, at the Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Correction

In the Ruth Grawien obituary in last week-s Foto News, the number of surviving great-grandchildren was incorrectly listed. It should have stated *17 great-grandchildren rather than 178, the Foto News apologizes for the error.
