William J. Hass
William J. Hass, 42, formerly of Merrill, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at his home in Madison of natural causes.
Bill was born in Merrill on June 17, 1964, son of William and Judy Lemke Hass, Tomahawk.
He attended St. Francis School in Merrill, graduated from Merrill Senior High School in 1982, and then attended Green Bay Technical College. He had worked at the former Snyder Drug Store, Merrill; the former Rogers Cinema in Wausau; and the Bay Theater in Green Bay. He was the general manager of the Market Square Theater in Madison, then moved to California where he was the general manager for the AMC and Landmark theaters. Bill then moved back to Wisconsin in 2002 to be closer to his family and friends. He was most recently employed at Eastbay in Wausau, but recently moved to Madison to pursue his career in movie theater management. He was a movie aficionado, sharing his expertise of the movie world with all his family and friends, knowing every movie made, its stars and producers. Bill enjoyed the closeness of his family and friends, especially his nephew Andrew, who meant the world to him. His three cats, Jake, Elwood and Bart, were his loving companions for 17 years. When at his parents' home, Bill enjoyed fishing and his mother's flower gardens, in which he was always planting something. He also enjoyed discovering new restaurants. Bill was always helping out his friends and listened to their problems. He was a caring and loving person.
Survivors include his parents, William and Judy Hass, Tomahawk; brother and sister-in-law Steve and Lisa Hass, Merrill; and his nephew Andrew Hass, Merrill. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Edwin and Irene Lemke and paternal grandparents William F. and Estelle Hass.
A private family committal service will be held at a later date. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family.
