Richard G. Graap
Richard G. "Dickie" Graap, 61, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away at 7:25 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville, Ohio, following a short illness.
Richard was born Feb. 22, 1945, in Merrill, son of Berdean Woller Graap and the late Richard F. Graap.
Richard served his country proudly as a member of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired after 28 years with Mid Atlantic Canners of Zanesville, Ohio. Richard was a former member of the United Steel Workers Union and Merrill Eagles Aerie 584. He enjoyed golf, fishing, woodworking and watching all sports. His life centered on his wife, children and grandson Cameron Michael.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Jean E. Baird Graap; son Kevin R., Zanesville, Ohio; daughter Kari K. (Ian) Scott, Zanesville, Ohio; and grandson Cameron Michael Scott. Also surviving are his mother Berdean Graap; sisters Sandy (Dave) Sherfinski and Janie (Wally) Forrester; brothers David, Jim, Tim (Marcy) and Ron (Judy); special nephew Jody (Tammy) Sherfinski; and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Richard F. and brother Mike.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 9, at Bryan & Snider Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Ave., Zanesville, OH 43701. Rev. Dawn Remster officiated, with military services by VFW Post 1058 following the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in Richard's honor at any Muskingum County Huntington Bank to the Richard G. Graap Memorial Fund.
