Russell D. Gaston

Russell D. Gaston, 84, of Merrill, died Monday, July 31, 2006, at Good Samaritan Health Center under Comfort Care & Hospice Services.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 4, at 1:30 p.m. at Bible Presbyterian Church, Merrill. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Waid Funeral Home and Friday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Springbrook Cemetery, town of Pine River.

Russell D. Gaston

Russell Dwight Gaston, 84, of Merrill, died Monday, July 31, 2006, at Good Samaritan Health Center under Comfort Care & Hospice Services.

Russell was born Oct. 25, 1921, in Windsor, Ill., to the late Lausie and Lola Graven Gaston. He married Phyllis Bauman on Aug. 4, 1945, in Genoa City. She preceded him in death on July 26, 2004.

Russell had farmed with his wife in the Town of Pine River since 1954 and previously in Wheaton, Ill. He was an active member of Bible Presbyterian Church in Merrill, and had served as a deacon. Russell had served in the Civil Conservation Corp 613th Co. in Marseilles, Ill. He was active in Farm Bureau, and was a 4-H leader for over 30 years. He took great interest in his family, his community and his church.

Survivors include daughter Susan (Steve) Tiffany, Merrill; grandchildren Rebecca (Jim) Palus, Jessica (Ben) Gruetzmacher, and Amanda, Melissa, Pamela and Daniel Tiffany; great grandchildren Randi, Clayton, Kelsi, Cassandra and Abigail. He is further survived by sister Melba (Glen) Jeffers, Hannibal, Mo.; half-brothers Donald Gaston, Palmyra, Mo., and Billy Gaston, Florida; special nephew Robert (Peggy) Bauman; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 4, at Bible Presbyterian Church, Merrill. The Rev. Robert Smallman officiated. Burial is in Springbrook Cemetery, Town of Pine River. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family.
