Edwin Kriewald

Edwin Kriewald, 87, of 1304 E. Third St., Merrill, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at Marywood Convalescent Center, Wausau.

Ed was born February 25, 1919, in Merrill, son of the late Charles and Ida (Seeger) Kriewald. He married Ruth Mueske on January 18, 1947, in Merrill. She survives.

Ed was employed as a supervisor at Weinbrenner Shoe Company, Merrill, for 32 years. In 1974, he became the caretaker at the Red Crown Lodge on Trout Lake near Boulder Junction. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching sports on the television, and playing cards. Ed served with the U.S. Army during World War II, and was stationed in France, Germany, and Austria. Ed served with the 42nd Rainbow Division.

He is survived by his wife Ruth (Mueske) Kriewald, Merrill; daughter, Kay Kriewald, Madison; son, Gary Kriewald, Milwaukee; brother, Norman (Trudy) Kriewald, Merrill; and several nieces and nephews. Ed is preceded in death by sisters Ann Zimmerman, Grace Kleinschmidt, and Esther and Florence Kriewald, and brother Donald Kriewald.

The funeral was held Saturday, Aug. 5, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Walter Davidson officiated. Entombment is in Merrill Memorial Park Mausoleum, with graveside military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1638, Merrill. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family.
