Walter H. Kretzschmar

Walter H. Kretzschmar, 74, of Tomahawk, died Friday, July 7, 2006, at his residence.

Born in Mellen on Aug. 26, 1931, Walter was the son of the late Oscar and Ella Franke Kretzschmar. He married Norma Norman on May 30, 1953, in Mellen. She preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 1990.

Wally graduated from Mellen High School. He attended Concordia College in River Forest, Ill. Wally worked for over 30 years at Church Mutual Insurance as a printing supervisor. He was a member of St. Paul-s Lutheran Church in Irma. Wally belonged to the Rock Island Express snowmobile club, Lincoln County Sports Club and the Irma Lions Club. He was an avid hunter, taking annual trips to Wyoming, several trips to Africa, and always in camp for the Wisconsin hunt. Wally took great pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, spending lots of time with them.

Survivors include his daughters Cheryl Wickland, Tomahawk; Robin (Gary) Arseneau, Irma; and Laurie (Del) Snyder, Waupun; son Todd (Debra), Tomahawk; grandchildren Eric (Sarah) Kretzschmar, Andy and Jenna Wickland, Paula (Scott) Streich, Roy Arseneau, Michelle Snyder, Cindy (Jeff) Hopp, and Carrie (Colin) Fowler; and great-grandchildren Caleb, Annalee, Cody, Lauren and Cassandra. Also surviving are sisters Margaret Holt, Peoria, Ill.; and Anne Warner, Watertown; and brothers Karl (Gina), Ironwood, Mich.; and Richard (Ardith) and Robert (Sharon), both of Mellen. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma; children Ruth and Steven; sisters Helen Stam and Elizabeth Raml; brothers Paul and Oscar; and grandson Karl Arseneau.

Funeral services were Tuesday, July 11, at St. Paul-s Lutheran Church, Irma. Rev. Hans Heisinger officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, town of Rock Falls. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, was in charge of arrangements.
