Albert W. Zimmerman

Albert W. Zimmerman, 91, Woodruff, formerly of Merrill, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Tomahawk following a short illness.

Albert was born July 13, 1915, in the town of Hamburg to the late Albert Sr. and Anna Juedes Zimmerman. He married Marion Toellner on Sept. 27, 1947, in Merrill. She preceded him in death on July 2, 1990.

Bud was employed at Weinbrenner Shoe Co. for 43 years, having served on the credit union board. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill. During WWII he served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands and later trained soldiers in Alabama. Bud served on the Merrill City Council as an alderman from 1946-47. He retired in 1978 and moved with his wife Marion to Lac Du Flambeau. Bud was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying many hours of fishing at his lake home. He was a life member of the VFW Post 8341 and its honor guard in Lac Du Flambeau.

He is survived by nieces and nephews.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife; sisters Clara Eschenbach and Selma Bauman, and brothers Edward, Martin, Walter and Elmer Zimmerman.

Graveside services and burial were held Friday, Sept. 1, at Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. David Klemm officiated. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family.
