Ambrose George Neuens, 88, of Merrill, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at his residence.

Born in Athens on Nov. 28, 1917, Ambrose was the son of the late John Peter and Anna Burger Neuens. He was married to Aurelia Laufer for 27 years.

Ambrose served in the U. S. Army during World War II in Greenland. He dairy farmed in the town of Hamburg for several years. Ambrose also hauled milk for Mullen-s Cheese Company. Later he owned and operated Neuens- Bar in the town of Corning and worked at Northern Door until his retirement. Ambrose was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Hilltop Hunters Association. He played softball for the Huehnerfuss Bar ball teams which had been undefeated for several years, and also played for and sponsored Neuens- Bar ball team for many years. He enjoyed dancing, hunting and playing ball. Ambrose had friends galore, young and old.

Survivors include his daughters Jeanne (Milton) Krause, Merrill; and Colette Neuens and Marily (Rick) Seitzer, both of Green Bay; grandchildren Brenda (Jamie) Barrone, Luxemburg; Linda Krause, Merrill; Stacy (Kenny) Comer, Mindy (Dylan) Flick and Cole Seitzer, all of Green Bay; and Corrie Neuens, Aurora, Ill.; great-grandchildren Pete (Michelle) Staroska, Tucson, Ariz.; Eric (Jessica Delaney) Hansen and Heather Hansen, both of Green Bay; Bryce Barrone, Luxemburg; Amaya Comer, Green Bay; and Bailee, Cayden and Ian Flick, all of Green Bay; and sister Catherine (Millard) Meyer, Muskego. He was preceded in death by son Gerry in infancy, five brother s and two sisters.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 18, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Merrill. Rev. James Horath officiated. Burial was in the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Merrill, with military rites by Post #10203. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family.
