William Metz

William Metz, 70, of Merrill, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at his residence.

Born in Milwaukee on March 5, 1936, William was the son of the late James and Rose Schmuhl Metz. He married Karen Grunenwald on Dec. 3, 1982, in Merrill. She survives.

After high school Bill joined the Army and was stationed in Germany where he drove truck and helped on reconstruction projects. Bill farmed in the town of Pine River from 1968 to 1981. He then worked as service manager at various local auto dealerships, retiring from Brickner's in Antigo in 1996. Since retiring, he helped his son Greg at Metz Construction. Bill enjoyed woodworking, puttering and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Karen, Merrill; sons Steve, Alabama; Douglas, California; and Greg (Stacey), Merrill; daughters Charyl (David) Hoover, Marathon; Wendy (Anthony) Ketterer, Phoenix, Ariz.; Nancy (James) Rozzo, Grovetown, Ga.; and Malinda (Jeff) Sutter, Berea, Ohio; steps-sons Andrew (Julie) Zuelsdorff and Jason (Jeannie) Zuelsdorff, both of Merrill; and grandchildren Jessica, Zach, Benjamin, Amy, Zavier, Chris, Britney, Ryan, Katrina, Michael, Bradley, Kelsey, Natalie, Allison, Emily, Jacob, Nicole, Taylor, Jamie and Jillian. Also surviving are brothers Bernard (Shirley), Milwaukee; Gregory, Wisconsin; and Wayne (Paula), Lannon; and sisters Shirley Sampon, Margaret (Charles) Gagliano and Lucille Metz, all of Milwaukee.

He was preceded in death by sister Karen Karls.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 3, at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Robert Smallman officiated.
