Edna M. Koch

Edna M. Koch, 97, of 2100 E. Sixth St., Merrill, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.

Edna was born March 21, 1909, in Rhinelander, daughter of the late Clarence and Charlotte Stevenson Secard. She married Norman R. Koch in Merrill on Aug. 29, 1929. He preceded her in death on July 25, 1989.

Edna was a telephone operator for Wisconsin Bell and G.T.E. in Merrill and Wausau for over 50 years. She retired in 1974. Edna was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill, where she was a former member of both the church choir and the Catholic Women's Club. Edna enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She sewed all the clothes for her children as they were growing up. She also enjoyed her pet cats, and was a fan of the Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include her daughter Kathleen Paral, Green Bay; sons Norman J. (Rita) and Gerald (Joan), both of Merrill; and Thomas (Jean), Sutherlin, Va.; 11 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 19 great-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister June Glasl, Merrill; and brother James (Dorothy) Secard, Wisconsin Rapids. She was preceded in death by son Richard in 1963, grandson Greg Koch, step-grandson Brian, sisters Florence, Lorraine, Mildred and Beatrice, and brother Leon Secard.

A Funeral Mass was held Saturday, Jan. 6, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill. Rev. Joseph Kleinheinz officiated. Burial was in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Merrill. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials be given to the St. Francis Catholic Church Building Fund.
