Patricia A. Hogelie

Longtime Alaskan and Peters Creek/Eagle River resident Patricia A. Hogelie, 63, died May 1, 2004 at Mary Conrad Center from complications of diabetes.

Memorial services were held at 3:30 p.m. at Mary Conrad Center on Saturday, May 8. A memorial service is pending for May 22 in Eagle River. Her ashes will be scattered in Alaska, the place she loved most.

Patty was born November 20, 1940 in Merrill, Wisconsin to Harold and Gail Olson, the first of four daughters.

She arrived in Fairbanks in early 1958 and was always proud to have become an Alaskan while it was still a territory. She moved to Eagle River, divorced and later married Palmer Hogelie and together they owned and operated Tips Bars in Eagle River for many years. Patty enjoyed being a bartender and made many special friends during her 45 years in Alaska.

She was a people person and was very involved in community activities and dedicated to telethons for MD. She enjoyed doing crafts and bazaars with her friend Sharon for many years. She was a very talented crafter.

Her sisters wrote, "She fought a long, courageous battle against diabetes, always knowing the war couldn't be won. She set her goal to reach 60 and surpassed that by three years, six months. She wanted to live until Brittnay was 13 but fell short by 10 months. The depth of our loss cannot be expressed."

She is survived by four daughters and their families, Sherrie, Dawn, Lori and Ronda; four grandsons and two granddaughters; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Al Zanella, of Pence, Wisconsin, Suzan Olson and David Parks of Anchorage; nieces and nephews, Lisa and Richie, Lori and Joe, Amanda, Brittnay, Chad and fianc- Natascha; special friends Thelma, Delbert, Mary, June and Tom, and many friends who were like extended family.

She was preceded in death by both parents, younger sister Sharon, Palmer Hogelie and Robert Parrish.

Memorial donations may be made to Alaska USA Federal Credit Union, Account 1140611, to help with funeral and medical expenses.

Arrangements are pending at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E Street.
