James Malford Larson, 70, died Monday, January 5, 2004, at his home in Osseo. James was born on May 25, 1933, in Osseo, Wis.

He graduated from Osseo High School in 1951, and joined the Air Force in 1952. He was stationed in various locations including Mississippi, Colorado and Massachusetts, and was honorably discharged in 1955. After the Air Force, James worked at Honeywell in Minneapolis and attended the University of Minnesota. He graduated in 1960, from Wisconsin State University-Stevens Point with a B.A. in English and history. He taught high school in Boscobel, Tomahawk and Sun Prairie, and received his master-s degree in education administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He married Gloria Watson on October 21, 1966, in Osseo. He was the school district administrator for the cities of Augusta (1968-1975), West Salem (1976-1980) and Cochrane-Fountain City (1983-1987). From 1981-1982, he served as the regional director of Congressman Steve Gunderson-s home office in Black River Falls. He retired in 1987 and moved to Clam Lake, Wis.

James was very proud of his work promoting K-12 education in the school systems in which he worked. After his retirement, he spent 16 years enjoying his hobbies, which included traveling, golfing, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. James was a member of the American Legion, the Osseo Commercial Club, and the Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators.

James is survived by his son, David (Lisa) Larson; his daughter Kathy (Paul) Anderson; his two grandchildren, Alexandra and Nicholas Anderson; and his sister, Mary (Rollie) Hirman.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Malford and Mina (Dahl) Larson; and his brother, Duane Larson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, at the South Beef River Church in Osseo with Rev. Greg Ofsdahl officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 9, at the Schiefelbein Funeral Home in Osseo and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
