Leslie Hammond

Leslie Franklin Hammond, 96, Gleason, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at Woodland Court in Merrill.

He was an electrical engineer and head of the electrical department for Wausau Papers in Brokaw for more than 50 years, retiring in 1973. Les sold insurance for Farmers Mutual, created Hammond Electric and was a certified soil tester for septic installations.

Survivors include three children, Wayne (Mary) Hammond, Windsor, Wis., Sandra (C. Kelly) Knutson, Wisconsin Rapids, and Larry (Gloria) Hammond, Gleason; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Winifred Hammond, Wausau.

A gathering will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Friday at the American Legion, 1000 Golf Club Road, Wausau.

Helke Funeral Home of Wausau assisted the family with arrangements.
