Gordon Pophal
Gordon E. Pophal, age 73, of Eau Claire, formerly of Merrill, Wis., passed away Monday, February 7, 2005, at Luther Hospital, Eau Claire, Wis. He was born December 24, 1931, to Emil and Myrtle Pophal in Merrill. He graduated from Merrill High School in 1950.
Gordon entered the U.S. Army in 1953 serving in Japan until February of 1955. He married Jean Kretlow in Merrill on July 11, 1953. He worked for 35 years for Wisconsin Bell in both Merrill and Eau Claire, retiring in 1992. He was an avid golfer and Packers fan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Jean; daughters, Patty (Bob) Murphy of Wylie, Texas, Jane (Ed) Slifer of Eau Claire and Virginia (Rohm) Bloedorn of Delafield, Wis.; son, Matthew (Kathi) Pophal of Green Bay; eight grandchildren, Rob and Matt Murphy, Jennifer (Darren) Benson, Michelle and Nicole Bloedorn, Brittany, Erika and Becca Pophal; two great-grandsons, Eric and Nathan Benson; nieces and nephews; other loving relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2005, at Prock Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. officiated by Reverend Bill Dhein. A visitation will also be held from 11 a.m. until noon on Saturday, February 12, 2005, at Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, Wis., followed by a graveside service at Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery, Merrill, with Reverend Earl Eckhart officiating.
Prock Funeral Home in Eau Claire and Taylor-Stine Funeral Home in Merrill are serving the family.
