Alfred C. "Butch" Roman, 81, of Merrill, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.

Born July 8, 1923, in Merrill, Butch was the son of the late William and Pauline Kleinberg Roman. He married Mildred Mosser in Merrill on July 5, 1944.

Butch was the body shop repairman for Otto Nienow and later for Chevrolet Motors. He opened his own body repair and paint shop in 1957, Al's Body Shop, which he operated for 32 years. His sons and grandsons worked with him in the shop. Butch retired in 1989 when his son Clark bought the business. Butch was an active member of the Knights in 1985-86. Butch was a past member of the Eagles. He was a private pilot, which he enjoyed very much. He took many friends up for their first airplane ride. He love fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. He enjoyed going to the trailer at Boulder Junction. Butch waited for Tuesdays to come as he enjoyed going to the Senior Center to play cards. He was always there to tell jokes or stories to anyone who would listen. He was a very happy-go-lucky person. Butch was Millie toured most of the western states, enjoyed a cruise, toured Alaska, Hawaii, the Bahamas and Spain. Butch always looked forward to Christmas. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. He really loved his first great-granddaughter, as she is the only girl in three generations.

He is survived by his wife Mildred; sons Dale A. (Sandy), Bruce A. (Sandy) and Clark A. (Tammy), Chris A. (Corene), Bruce A. (Amanda), Bill A. and Jesse A., and great-grandchildren Molly Kate and Nicholas. Also surviving are sister Pauline (Elmer) Nienow and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were Tuesday, March 8, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Merrill. Rev. James Horath officiated. Burial was in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Merrill. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family. Memorials may be made to the St. Francis Building Fund.
