C. J. Peterson Dies Funeral Held Nov. 1
Funeral services were held Tuesday for Charles John Peterson, a 79 year-old Irma resident, who died at the Riverview hospital on Saturday morning. Mr. Peterson had been in poor health for the past three years, and he had been in very serious condition for the last two weeks.
His body lay in state at the Taylor funeral home in Merrill from Sunday night until Tuesday afternoon when sevices were held for him at the funeral home and his church. The Rev. Charles Odahl conducted the services.
Mr. Peterson was born in Sweden on Sep 2, 1870. He came to America 61 years ago and has been engaged in farming and logging for over half a century. He was married on Dec. 25, 1895, at Stevens Point to Thora Knutsen, who survives him.
Other survivors are his five daughters and four sons. They are: Mrs. Herbert (Jennie) Lange, Mrs. Ben (Myrtle) Pagel, Mrs. Thomas (Clara) Alorie, all of Irma; Mrs. Sylvester (Norma) Knash of Boulder Junction; Mrs. Kurt (Thelma) Schmidtke of Green Bay, Theodore, Gustav, and Ninus Peterson of Irma and Fred Peterson of Port Wing, Wis.
Three brothers and a sister also survive. They are Gus and Otto Peterson of Irma and Oscar Peterson of Tomahawk and Mrs. Amanda Gauthier, Lac Du Flambeau. Twenty one grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by a brother, Fred and three sisters Mrs. John Magnuson, Mrs. Eli Johnson and Mrs. Nels Michelson. Four sons and one daughter also passed away prior to his death.
