---Rhyner, Roger & Delores (Golden - 30 Jan. 2004)

It's been a year since Roger and Delores Rhyner celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Their family surprised them with airline tickets to go to California to visit Loretta and Jerry Fuller (Delores-sister and brother-in-law.) They arrived in California on Jan. 23, 20004, and on Jan. 28, the four of them drove 10 hours to Las Vegas, Nev., where they met Bob and Margie Thorn (Roger's sister and brother-in-law.) On Jan. 30, 2004, they celebrated their special day at Denny's Restaurant in Bakersfield, Calif., which was owned by Buck Owens. The waitress presented them with decorated balloons. Then they continued to celebrate at another nightclub located in Cameron Park where they were presented with a special anniversary cake.

On June 5, 2004, the family held a surprised "50th" anniversary at Sylvan Hills Park in Wausau. Friends and relatives enjoyed a luncheon and musical entertainment. Jerry Fuller jr. was the photographer and he also assisted with food preparation. Table centerpieces were made by Loretta Fuller and daughter-in-law Maria Fuller. Roger Thorn furnished a refrigerated trailer for food and drinks, and Gail Kudronowicz furnished 50th anniversary decorations. Members of the original wedding party in attendance included Robert Roeder, Carol Rhyner and Mr. and Mrs. Ardell Hussong.

On Jan. 30, 1954, in Grace Evangelical and Reformed Church, Wausau, Roger married Delores Wilde. The ceremony was performed by Rev. J. C. Rosenau, and Mrs. Rosenau sang two solos, "Wedding Prayer" and "When the Song is Sweet." Despite the bitter cold temperature of 39 degrees below zero, 500 guests enjoyed dancing at Nutterville Hall to the music of the "Skyrockets."

Roger and Delores have four children: Donna (Brian) Opper, Dawn (Chris) Gruna and Dennis (Amy) Rhyner, all of Merrill; and Roger (Brenda) Rhyner, town of Hewitt. They have eight grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. The grandchildren are Corey, Nikki, Christopher, Justin, Brooke, Breanna, Brody and Morgan; and Kalynn is the great-granddaughter.

Roger and Delores have lived in the town of Texas for their entire life. Roger works at Wisconsin Box Co. and he enjoys working in the woods with his favorite chain saw and his John Deere "B" tractor. Delores has been a full time homemaker and her reputation as a great cook is known far and wide. She enjoys going nature walks, gardening, yard work, and helping family and friends.
