Betty J. Osness, 75, of Merrill, died Tuesday, October 11, 2005, at home under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Born January 7, 1930, in Merrill, Betty was the daughter of the late Leslie and Lydia Lau Zimmerman. She married Harry Osness on Dec. 3, 1949. He survives.

Betty graduated from Merrill High School in 1948. She had worked for the Merrill Area Public School as a teachers aide at the former Franklin School. Betty was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ and was a former Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Lincoln County Retired Teacher association and was a volunteer for the local food pantry. Betty enjoyed taking her daily walks with friends, reading, baking, working crossword puzzles, and especially being with her family at Sunday dinners and family get-togethers.

Survivors include her husband Harry, Merrill; daughter Debra (Stan) Seeger, Merrill; sons Steve (Paula), Randall (Dorothy Malm) and Todd (Susie), all of Merrill and Kevin (Kathy), Wausau; grandchildren Tim (Lindsay) Seeger and Brian Seeger; Lea (Jeff) Marthaler and Steven (Kendra) Osness; Breanne (Scott) Semling; Erica (Scott) Utegaard and Joshua Osness; and Erin and Alex Osness; and great-grandchildren Mia, Ethan, Allysen, Ashlynn, Kendel, Harlie and Kirsa. Also surviving are her sister Sandy (Chip) Mosser, Merrill; and special nieces Brenda (Richard and their son Collin) Grefe and Michelle (Patrick) Tsai.

Funeral services were Friday, October 14, at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill. Pastor Missy Holdorf and Rev. Steve Russell officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Stephen's U.C.C., the T. B. Scott Library, or the charity of your choice.
