Richard J. Cherwinka Jr., age 81, died peacefully Monday, October 10, 2005, at Harbor House, Merrill.

Richard was born in Merrill, April 24, 1924, to Angelica and Richard Cherwinka Sr. He married Alice Johnson in 1942.

Richard was employed at the Weinbrenner Shoe Company for 54 years; the longest employment service on record. He enjoyed fishing and grouse hunting with his sons in the Merrill area.

Richard is survived by his son Richard Wayne (Lynn) Cherwinka; grandchildren Lee, Lori, Jay, Michael and Jill; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son James and his wife Alice.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 12, at Merrill Memorial Park, with Rev. Ted Gulhaugen of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church officiating. The Taylor and Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family with arrangements.
