---Raasch, Elroy Walter (4 Jan. 1921 - 29 Aug. 2003)

Elroy Walter Raasch, 82, of Gleason, died Friday, August 29, 2003, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill, under Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Born in Merrill on January 4, 1921, Elroy was the son of the late Fredrick and Selma Gehrke Raasch. He married Lucille Rosenthal in October 1955. In August 1981 he married Mabel Gauthier Breivogel. She survives.

Elroy worked in construction in the Milwaukee area. He later worked for Anson-Gilke Company, Semling-Menke Company and the Green Thumbs, all in Merrill. He enjoyed baseball, football and woodworking. He served as an Army MP in the South Pacific during World War II from 1942 until 1947.

Surviving are his children with Lucille Debra (Dale) Mowen, Burlington, Iowa; Sue (Randy) Yonke, Franklin; Colleen (Steve) Vickio, New Berlin; Claude (Rebecca) Raasch and Elroy (Mary) Raasch, both of Merrill; stepdaughters Donna (Lloyd) Alsteens and Eunice (Randy) Beatty, both of Rhinelander; stepsons James (Sharon) Shaver, Merrill; Jack (Cheryl) Shaver, Rhinelander; Charles (Evelyn) Shaver, Gleason; Gerald (Josie) Shaver and Frank (Donna) Shaver, both of Rhinelander; Boydy Breivogel, Jr.; Harshaw; 11 grandchildren and 20 step-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister Alice Henrichs and brother Norman (Lavila), both of Merrill. He was preceded in death by brothers Wilbert and Ardell and granddaughter Anna Raasch.

A memorial service was held Friday, September 15, 2003, in the conference room at the Super 8 Motel, Merrill. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family.
