Helena M. Kleinschmidt, 97, Merrill, died October 9, 2003, under Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care, Wausau Hospital.
Helena was born December 7, 1905, in Glenwood, Minnesota, to William and Amelia (Schmidt) Zemke. She married Arnold Kleinschmidt on November 13, 1926, in the town of Scott. He preceded her in death on January 16, 1980.
As a young girl, Helena's family moved to Lincoln County in October of 1918 to operate a farm. After her marriage, both she and her husband had farmed in the Town of Scott until their retirement in 1966. Helena has lived with her daughter, Faye Krenzke, in Merrill since February of 1984. Helena enjoyed gardening, raising house plants, knitting and crocheting, making patchwork quilts, reading, and doing word search puzzles.
Survivors include her daughter, Faye (Dennis) Krenzke, Merrill; one daughter-in-law, Frieda Kleinschmidt, Merrill; two son-in-laws, Erwin Koehler and Gordon Jaeger, both of Merrill; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Arnold (Emily) Zemke, Merrill, and Herbert (Rose) Zemke, Waupaca. Helena was preceded in death by two daughters, Christine Jaeger in 1969, and Mildred Koehler in 1992; one son, William Kleinschmidt in 1969; one grandson Jerome Koehler; five sisters, Ida Baneck, Emilie Krause, Anna Krause, Dorothea Oestreich, and Esther Krueger; and also five brothers, Ernest, Paul, William, Hugo and Leo Zemke.
Funeral services were held on October 13, 2003, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. Kenneth Albers officiated. Burial was in the Snow Hill Cemetery, Town of Scott. The Taylor and Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family with the arrangements.
