Germaine Hanson, 102, of 2100 E. Sixth St., Merrill, died Tuesday, September 14, 2004, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.

Germain was born December 18, 1901, in Angers, France, daughter of the late August and Eugenia Barat.

Germaine moved to the United States in 1922 and later became a citizen. She had owned and operated a "corner grocery store" in Barnesville, Minn.

Survivors include her daughter Solange North, Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren Michele (Brian) Shay, Sandpoint, Idaho; and John North, Merrill; and great-grandchildren Stephen and Matthew Shay and Jonathon and Michael North.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Taylor and Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family.
