Ewald W. Pagel, 89, of Merrill, died Friday, October 1, 2004, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.

Born in the town of Maine on August 16, 1915, Ewald was the son of Otto and Minnie Krueger Pagel. He married Esther Storm on October 11, 1939, in the town of Berlin. She preceded him in death on December 14, 1996.

Ewald worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Co. in Merrill. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and walking through Council Grounds State Park. Ewald was a long-time member of the Faith Lutheran Church in the town of Maine.

Survivors include his sisters Verna (Duane) Isaacson, Merrill; and Francis (Gilbert) Jacobi, Wausau; brothers-in-law Elroy (Eleanor) Koehler, Merrill; and Wallace Mehlhorn, Tilleda; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were Tuesday, October 5, at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Kevin Hoogland officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park.
