Nancy Beth Laabs, 54, Medford, formerly of Merrill, died Sunday, October 24, 2004, at her residence in the town of Browning under the loving care of family and Hope Hospice.
Born February 23, 1950, in Merrill, Nancy was the daughter of Arthur F. and Elizabeth Peterson Downing. She married Myron Laabs, July 5, 1969, in Merrill. He survives.
Nancy attended Merrill area elementary schools and was a 1968 graduate of Merrill High School. She went on to receive a master's degree in health care administration from Carson Business College, University of Minnesota. She worked in the nursing field at Merrill and Wausau Hospitals for periods of time. She moved to Seattle, Wash., where she worked as vice president of operations at Memorial Health Center in Medford until the time of her death. She enjoyed work, cooking, gardening and her family. Nancy was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill; Medford Rotary Club; and American College of Health Care Executives.
She is survived by her father, husband, daughter Kristin (Kevin) Bolling, Merrill; and son Ted (Rhonda), Pleasant Prairie. She is further survived by grandson Noah Bolling, Merrill, and several nieces and nephews. Surviving siblings include sister Nancy Ann (Pat) Priebe, Merrill; and brothers Arthur "Bud" (Karen) Downing; Huntington W;, Ted (Marion) Downing, Howard; Tim (Katie) Beppler, Evanston, Wyoming; Chris (Cheryl) Downing, Tomahawk; and Roger (Mary) Nelson, Merrill. Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, step-mother June Downing, Godmother Irene Schwoch and granddaughter Sidney Irene Laabs.
Funeral services are being held Wednesday, October 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill. The Rev. Earl Eckhart will officiate. Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery and Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the family for health scholarship to be presented in Nancy's name at Medford High School.
