John Koschmann, 81, formerly of Park Ridge, died Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at St. Michael's Hospital, Stevens Point, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease.

John was born to the late H. Edward and Anna Giessing Koschmann on August 12, 1923, in Freeport, Ill. He married Lucille Vonderheid on August 14, 1948, in St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill.

John's family moved to Merrill in 1929 where he attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School and was a graduate of Merrill High School class of 1941. He was inducted into the U. S. Army in February 1943. He was trained to teletype maintenance and served in Hawaii, Guam and Tokyo, Japan. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific theater Award and the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in January 1946. John attended Milwaukee Business Institute from September 1946 until June 1948 and began a long career as an IBM programmer for Sentry Insurance (formerly Hardware Mutual) in Stevens Point in June 1948. He retired in October 1985 after 37 -years of service. John was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stevens Point and served on various committees as treasurer and financial secretary. He had an active role in the founding of St. Paul Lutheran School and was involved in Men's Club, YAHAS, and various Bible studies at St. Paul's.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lucille; children Alan (Marcia), Albuquerque, N. M.; Ann (William) Stecky, Wisconsin Dells; Jacquelyn (Leonardo) Cadena-Perez, Little Rock, Ark.; and James (Beth), Burnsville, Minn.; grandchildren Matthew, Nicholas, Kate, Gretchen, Angela, Justin, Evan and Ashley; and brothers Edward (Marlene), Paul (Joan) and Mark (Dorothy). He was preceded in death by an infant son, a brother and three sisters.

Funeral services were Saturday, November 13, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stevens Point. Rev. Bob Barnes officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park. The Boston Funeral Home, Stevens Point, served the family.
