Richard A. Gulke, 80, of 603 Francis Dr., Merrill, died Saturday, December 11, 2004, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, where he had resided since June of this year.

Dick was born January 30, 1924, son of the late Otto and Gertrude Sager Gulke. He married Fern E. Krueger on February 15, 1985, in West Bend. She survives.

Dick was a graduate of Merrill Senior High School. He was a carpenter, both as a self-employed residential contractor and in union commercial construction. Dick spent many years in the construction trade. He was a true craftsman and his work was appreciated by many. He loved hunting, fishing, nature walks, and his knowledge and appreciation of trees and animals and their habits was immense. Dick was admired for his tolerance, sincerity, care and gentle nature. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. Dick was a member of Merrill's Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Survivors beside his wife include his daughters Charlene "Chickie" Voigt, Ringle; and Barbara "Bobbie" (Michael) Doerr, Sturgeon Bay, son Patrick, Washington State; step-daughters Joyce Volm; Plover; Sandra (Ken) Thiede, Burlington; Kathleen (George) Sefcik, Cleveland, Tenn.; Susie (Kevin) O'Day, Merrill; and Nancy Folkedahl (Mark Neuy), West Bend; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Helen Raisler and Kate Gulke, both of Napa, Calif.; Charlotte Hoge, Nevada; and Jean Grove, Senora, Calif.; brothers Walter, Merrill; and Hubert, Edward, and David, all of Napa, Calif. He was preceded in death by daughter Margaret "Peggy" Bonesach and sister Shirley Lewis, Nevada.

Funeral services were Monday, December 13, at the Merrill Seventh Day Adventist Church. Rev. Bill Bossert officiated. Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park. The Taylor and Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family.
