Ellen Erickson

Ellen Erickson, 94, of 1500 O'Day St., Merrill, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill.

Ellen was born Oct. 16, 1912, in Merrill, daughter of the late August and Nathalie (Freitag) Voelz. While attending beauty school in Chicago, Ellen met Harold O. Erickson. They were married Dec. 5, 1937, in Chicago. The couple returned to Merrill in 1940, and together they owned and operated Riverview Beauty Salon located on East Main Street in Merrill. The marriage ended with Harold's death March 2, 1997. Together the couple enjoyed bowling, and after she retired, Ellen enjoyed spending time at the Merrill Senior Center. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill.

Survivors include three daughters, Judy Wery, Merrill, Sally (George) Svihla, Austin, Texas, and Ingrid Erickson, Detroit; two granddaughters, Ericka and Ingrid; and one brother, Arthur (Betty) Voelz, Merrill. Ellen is preceded in death by one son-in-law, Jerome "Jerry" Wery; three sisters, Mabel Hansen, Viola Dengel and Edna Baguhn; and also two brothers, Alfred and Wilbert Voelz.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, at Holy Cross Chapel-Bell Tower Residence, Merrill. The Rev. Alden J. Beversdorf will officiate. Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Chapel-Bell Tower Residence, Merrill.

The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting with arrangements.
