Clara M. Smith
Clara M. Smith, 94, of 204 Blaine St., Merrill, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Woodland Court in Merrill.
Clara was born Nov. 3, 1910, in Lincoln County, daughter of the late Richard and Albertina (Hinz) Voigt. She married Leslie W. Smith on Aug. 27, 1927, in Merrill. He preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1999.
Clara was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill. She was employed at Merrill Manufacturing for 23 years. Clara enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, cooking, attending her family's sporting events and the company of her grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Valencia 'Val' Grunenwald of Merrill and Verdelma Guest of Park Forest, Ill.; two sons, Stanley (Dorrie) Smith of Merrill and Leslie (Sharon) Smith Jr. of Racine; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard (Martha) Voigt of Merrill.
Clara is preceded in death by an infant son; two sons-in-law, Floyd Grunenwald and Jack Guest; seven sisters, Olga Rakow, Martha Kienbaum, Mabel Klug and Amalia, Elma, Esther and Lordine Voigt; and two brothers, Gottlieb and Ralph Voigt.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill. The Rev. David Klemm will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in the town of Maine. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Taylor & Stine Funeral Home in Merrill and beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorials be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Athletic Park Restoration Fund.
