Lily B. Gieschen

Lily Barbara Brandstetter, the daughter of Jacob F. Brandstetter and his wife, Anna Marie Kratt, was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Milwaukee.

Already in early infancy, on March 21, 1926, Lily was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, which vow she renewed on the day of her confirmation May 12, 1940.

Lily was united with the Rev. Henry Carl Paul Gieschen in Holy Wedlock on Aug. 15, 1948, in Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Milwaukee. The union was blessed with six children: four sons, Henry, Darrell, Steven and Charles; and two daughters, Susan and Charlotte.

Lily Gieschen was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and sang in church choir, was a soloist for many weddings and funerals, led the singing in Sunday School and sang and prayed with her children every evening as they were growing up. She was a good and faithful Christian wife and mother.

After being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in her late thirties, she suffered its debilitating effects over the years. More than 30 years of her life were spent in nursing home facilities. Her Christian bearing of her cross was an inspiration to her family and all who knew her. She departed this life Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at Mount View Care Center in Wausau at 3:25 p.m. at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 10 days. Her son, Darrell, daughter-in-law, Nancy, and granddaughter, Sarah, were with her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Karl and Walter; her granddaughter, Ruth; and her husband, the Rev. Henry C. Gieschen.

She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Henry, Darrell, Susan, Steven, Charlotte and Charles; her sister, Claire; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at Waid Funeral Home in Merrill. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mount View Care Center for the loving care and concern they gave their mother while she lived there.
