Selta E. Kuckhahn

Selta E. Kuckhahn, 91, formerly of the town of Berlin, Marathon County, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at Woodland Court Elder Services, Merrill.

Selta was born December 17, 1916, in the town of Hamburg, Marathon County, daughter of the late Henry and Alice (Bartelt) Grawien. She married Martin H. Kuckhahn on June 16, 1937, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Corning. He preceded her in death Aug. 11, 1991. Selta had worked in the ginseng gardens for the Fromm Brothers, town of Hamburg, and had also worked for Walter and Mabel Fromm for 18 years. She had also worked for Mr. and Mrs. Duane Vetter. Selta was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, town of Berlin, and a former member of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed flower gardening. During the summer months, her flowers always decorated the church altar. Selta also enjoyed sewing carpet rags, embroidery, and cooking.

Survivors include three daughters, Diana (Lothar) Hoffman of West Allis, Susanne (Ellsworth) Zastrow of Hamburg, and Faye (Ron) Mittelsteadt of Merrill; one son, the Rev. Richard (Marley) Kuckhahn of New Ulm, Minn.; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild "on-the-way;" two sisters-in-law, Helen Grawien of Merrill and Jane Graveen of Wausau; and one brother-in-law, Franklin Brandenburg of Merrill. Selta was preceded in death by four sisters, Alice Borchardt, Milda Brandenburg, Leona Haffemann and Viola Langhoff; and four brothers, Milton Grawien, Franklin Graveen, Elwood Grawien and Wilbert Grawien.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church, town of Berlin. The Rev. Jeffrey Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, town of Berlin. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday at the Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and again after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
