Arthur V. 'Shorty' Burrows Jr.
Arthur V. "Shorty" Burrows Jr., 81, of 1603 East 12th St., Merrill, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.
Shorty was born Nov. 11, 1923, in Sheboygan, son of the late Arthur and Dorothy (Schmiek) Burrows Sr. He married Ramona Juedes on June 7, 1947, in Merrill. She survives.
Shorty was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Merrill. He worked in commercial building construction throughout Wisconsin. Prior to working in the construction trade, Shorty worked at the CCC camp in Tomahawk. He enjoyed woodworking and making special woodcrafts for each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shorty enjoyed watching his grandchildren's baseball games and other activities, as well as chauffeuring his great-grandchildren to school and bowling. He also taught his grandchildren and great-grandchildren poems. Shorty enjoyed spending weekends with his wife at their cabin in the town of Corning.
Survivors beside his wife, Ramona of Merrill, include one daughter, Penny (Mike) Hommerding of Merrill; one son, Mike (Joy) Burrows of Merrill; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; eight sisters, Dorothy Tolefson, Joyce Kleinschmidt and Jackie Stiver, all of Merrill, Lucille McEwen of Kimberly, Geraldine Mahn of Green Bay, Honey Weber of Merrill, Barbara Simpson of Luxemburg, and Sally (Paul) Robbins of Arizona; and five brothers, Stuart (Mildred) Burrows, John Burrows, William (Delores) Burrows and Ronald (Melinda) Burrows, all of Merrill, and Thomas Burrows of Oshkosh. Shorty was preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick and Donald.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Ted Gulhaugen will officiate. Inurnment will be in Merrill Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family with arrangements.
