Mildred Evans, 89

Mildred "Milly" Alice Evans, 89, town of Spirit, died Aug. 27, 2005, at her residence under the loving care of her family, caregivers, and Hope Hospice & Palliative Care.

She was born June 20, 1916, in Waukesha, to Charles and Helen (Rupp) Rogers. She attended Union Graded School in Waukesha and was a 1934 graduate of Waukesha High School. She played on the Waukesha women's high school baseball team where she met her future husband, Harry Evans, who was the coach. The couple were married on March 23, 1935, in Rockford, Ill. They continued to live in Waukesha until 1940, moving to Minneapolis. They purchased a dairy farm in the town of Spirit in 1936 and in 1944 they moved to the farm where they would operate the dairy farm for 30 years and farm for 40 years. She was a member of Spirit United Methodist Church and the Liberty Bell Homemakers. She enjoyed gardening, spending time outdoors, playing sports and being with her family.

She is survived by three sons, Jerry (Winnie), Wausau; William (Darlene), Spirit; and John (Roxanne), Brantwood; by one daughter Elizabeth Seidel, Fall Creek and one son-in-law Jim Gahnz, Mesa, Ariz.; by two brothers, Francis (Ruth), Waukesha; and Douglas (Lois), Nasalle, Wash.; by one sister Jane Kranich, Tampa, Fla.; by 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; by one sister-in-law Lucille Evans, Tomahawk; and by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Harry on May 7, 2005, by one daughter Judith Gahnz in 1996, and by one sister Josephine.

Funeral services were held Aug. 31 at Spirit United Methodist Church with Rev. Rebecca Niese officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery in the town of Spirit (Price County). Pallbearers were Peter, Todd, Chad, Tom and Darrin Evans, Jeff Gahnz, and Brian and Greg Seidel.

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford & Rib Lake served the family.
