Erwin A. Koehler Jr.

Erwin A. Koehler Jr., 83, of 1508 Jackson St., Merrill, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.

Erwin was born April 4, 1920, in Lincoln County, son of the late Erwin and Mabel (Woller) Koehler Sr. He married Mildred Kleinschmidt Nov. 20, 1943. She preceded him in death Dec. 2, 1992. He then married Lauretta (Karau) Wengeler Sept. 12, 1996. She survives.

Erwin was self-employed as a residential carpenter. He was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill, and was involved in both the Ushers Club and dart ball team at church. In 1996, Erwin received the Faith Award from St. Stephen's UCC. He was a member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Merrill. Erwin always enjoyed the outdoors.

Erwin is survived by his wife, Lauretta, Merrill; two daughters, Sherry (John) Laht, Merrill, and Gorgetta (Lawrence) Sampo, Merrill; one son, John (Kathy) Koehler, Merrill; one step daughter, Lauretta Huston, Greenfield, Wis.; one stepson, William (Joanne) Wengeler, Merrill; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Luella Storm, Rosella Moyer, and Joan (Victor) Lukes, all of Merrill; and one sister-in-law, Faye(Dennis) Krenzke, Merrill. He was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and two brothers, Kenneth and Myron.

Erwin's funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ in Merrill. The Rev. Earl Eckhart will officiate. Burial will be in Snow Hill Cemetery, town of Scott. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8p.m. today at the Taylor and Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and again Saturday at noon until service time at the church.

The Merrill Eagle's Club will conduct their service at 7:30 p.m. today at the Taylor and Stine Funeral Home, Merrill.
